Hi I’m Rebecca

I trained at professional level in musical theatre/ dance for three years before going on to perform in Japan at Tokyo Disney Resort. After completing my contract in 2019, I returned back to the UK to undertake my teaching qualifications in Mat Pilates and Group Exercise classes.

I was due to move to Shanghai and then again Tokyo to perform again but unfortunately both contracts were cancelled due to the COVID pandemic.

This is what lead me to complete my 200 Hour Yoga Alliance International Teacher Training and become a full time Pilates, Yoga and Barre Instructor!

My love for Pilates came from many years of practicing it along side dancing to prevent injury whilst training and also for rehabilitation. Yoga came into my life when I returned back to the UK after my first contract, I suffered with chronic neck and back pain from the costumes that I wore whilst performing - practicing Yoga 2-3 times a week helped me greatly but I also fell in love with how a vinyasa flow feels like a a type of dance as you move through each posture.

I believe body alignment, positional awareness and correct posture are the key foundations to a comfortable life. The combination of both Pilates and Yoga are a great way to practice these fundamentals. Pilates, Yoga and Barre compliment each other so well, helping you to develop strength, mobility and flexibility and find muscles that you didn’t even know existed!

Pilates

I am a Level 3 Mat Pilates and Pre and Post Natal Teacher, certified by HFE.

My classes are influenced by my practice of Pilates whilst training as a professional dancer. My style of Pilates is fun and dynamic, I like to follow the original 34 exercises created by Joseph Pilates, but I love to throw a bit of spice in there whilst ensuring the exercise is performed correctly.

In pilates, you will work on relaxation, concentration, alignment, centering, breathing, coordination, fluidity and stamina. Pilates is great for strengthening all of the small muscles that surround your joints as well as working on core strength and posture. It is a perfect combination of strength, mobility and flexibility and can be used for injury prevention as well as rehabilitation.

Yoga

I completed my 200-hour Yoga Alliance International Certification with Yoga Teacher Training Course.

With my background in dance and Pilates, I am passionate about body alignment and
technique to ensure safe practice and to help strengthen the body but I also like to bring a sense of wellbeing and relaxation into what I teach. A Yoga class with me will usually be a Vinyasa flow with a more dynamic and powerful aspect to it but I do also offer a slower pace and more chilled flow when it is needed.

Yoga increases flexibility, muscle definition, endurance and mental clarity.

Barre

Barre is where I bring my three favourite things together.

Barre is where I bring my three favourite things together. Barre is a combination of Pilates, Yoga
and Ballet techniques that will help you to strengthen and lengthen your muscles without a high
impact on the joints. It will work up a sweat and get your heart rate going, your muscles will shake
but you will leave the class feeling great! Everyone ALWAYS comes back for more.

Yoga increases flexibility, muscle definition, endurance and mental clarity.

In my classes, I always make sure to target the whole body so you leave feeling like you have
worked every muscle. You will feel the burn in your arms, abs, glutes, quads, hamstrings and even
your calves.

My Pilates Story

I was introduced to Pilates when I was about 17 years old. Like many people, at first I thought Pilates was boring and pointless, however my opinion changed and I am going to explain the benefits of Pilates and why I think Pilates is important for everyone, no matter their age or circumstance.

When I was 16 years old I was incorrectly diagnosed by the NHS and was extremely ill for 18 months, I was unable to go to school and finish my GCSEs. I was bed-bound, was issued with a blue disability badge and if I wanted to go shopping had to use a wheelchair. Before this period of time I was very active, I danced every night after school for 3-4 hours and also dedicated most of my weekend to dancing. My dream was to become a professional dancer, perform on cruise ships and travel the world.

A year later an opportunity came up at the dancing school I used to go to. It meant that I could dance 4 times a week for 5-6 hours a day and gain a BTEC Diploma (equivalent of 3 A-Levels). This course allowed me to go back to basics and regain all of my strength and technique that I had lost whilst I was unwell.

This is where Pilates comes in. The strength I gained from Pilates not only helped me with my return to dancing but also in general life too. My core was stronger than it had ever been before, my mobility and flexibility improved and I began to find all those little muscles that had been forgotten about when I spent all day in bed.

My Story
